In Healthcare, particularly within the context of medical education and residency programs “match” refers to the National Resident Matching Program(NRMP). It is a system that matches medical school graduates with residency programs based on preference.

1. Application: Medical students apply for residency programs in their desired specialty
2. Interviews: Residency programs invite selected applicants for interviews
3. Rank Order lists: After interviews,both applicants and residency programs submit rank order list to the NRMP, showing their preferences for programs or candidates
4. Matching Algorithm: The NRMP used a computerized algorithm to match applicants to programs based on the preferences expressed in the rank order lists
5. Match Day: On a specific date, known as Match day, results are announced and Residents finds out where they are to train.
